Iniciamos el mes de Noviembre de 2019 con una misión Neuroquirúrgica coordinada por el Dr. Luis Francisco Gómez Perals (Neurocirujano), veterano voluntario NED, quien estuvo acompañado por la Dra. Solange Mihanda Muhima (Neurocirujana), Dª Mª Pilar Martínez Párraga (Enfermera instrumentista) y Dª Julia Mercedes Gándara Daimiel (Auxiliar Técnico de Enfermería).
We started the month of November 2019 with a Neurosurgical mission coordinated by Dr Luis Francisco Gomez Perals (Neurosurgeon), a veteran NED volunteer, who was accompanied by Dr Solange Mihanda Muhima (Neurosurgeon), Mrs. Maria Pilar Martinez Parraga (Scrub Nurse ) and Mrs. Julia Mercedes Gandara Daimiel (Nursing Technical Assistant).
During their stay they carried out: the consultation review of patients with neurosurgical disease. Performing surgical interventions. Preoperative and postoperative evaluation of the operated patients. Cleaning and disinfection of the operating room and apparatus. Review of boxes of surgical instruments. Placement of sanitary material. Preparation of the operating room for the start of the surgical activity. Daily review and cure of operated patients and surgical wounds.
On November 5th, Dr Eduardas Ambrasas (Intensivist) left for Zanzibar, to continue our Project in the ICU of the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital, remaining on the Island until November 26th.
His work focused on carrying out activities related to the clinical care of patients admitted to the intensive care unit. Training of local health personnel, as well as the continuation of the objectives set in the Project.
NED starts a new Gynecology-Neurosurgery project in Pemba,
On Sunday, November 10th, a joint Gine-Neuro mission arrived for the first time at Wete District Hospital in Pemba. Sanitarians from different hospitals in Valencia and Barcelona joined together for this mission.
The components of this special mission were: Dr Fernando Gil Raga (Gynecologist and Coordinator), Dr Carlos Pascual Botia (Gynecologist), Mrs. Laura Mallol Boix (Midwife), Dr. Maria Lucia Gil Gomez (Anesthesiologist), Mrs. Gemma Maiques Llacer (Midwife), Dr Francisca Ridocci Pallares (Gynecologist), Dr Sara Cholvi Camarasa (Gynecologist), Mrs. Patricia Muedra Santandreu (Scrub Nurse), Dr Ana Azcarraga Sapena (Gynecologist), Mrs. Pilar Chisbert Genoves (Scrub Nurse), Mrs. Africa Sanchez Salas (Scrub Nurse), Mrs. Tania Rey Domenech (ICU Nurse) and Dr Jose Piquer Belloch (Neurosurgeon).
Their work focused on the development and continuation of the objectives of the NED Gynecology and Neurosurgery Projects, establishing in the latter case the basis for continued collaboration in Pemba.
In parallel, a new ICU Project mission arrived at the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital made up of Mrs. Dita Chaloupkova (ICU Nurse).
During her stay, she focused on carrying out activities related to the clinical care of patients admitted to the intensive care unit. Training of local health personnel, as well as the continuation of the objectives set in the Project.
From Pemba, on the 9th they started a new Neurosurgical mission at the Mnazi Mmoja NED Surgical Institute composed of Dr Jose Piquer Belloch (Neurosurgeon and Coordinator), Mrs. Pilar Chisbert Genoves (Scrub Nurse), Mrs. Africa Sanchez Salas (Scrub Nurse) and Mrs. Tania Rey Domenech (ICU Nurse), who were joined by Dr Maite Bovaira Forner (Anesthesiologist) and Dr Salvador Martinez Arenas (Pediatrician)
They performed several surgeries during the mission days. They carried out external consultations, with discussion of clinical cases in conjunction with the local medical personnel in training. Review of the Institute’s consumables and medications. They made daily visits to patients admitted to hospital wards, as well as to the ICU. Training of local staff. The surgical activity overlapped with the care of patients with chronic pain, both in consultation and in the performance of techniques, by Dr. Bovaira, assisted by both local and mission nursing staff.
From November 18th to 22nd, the “2nd Training Course on Neuro-Critical Patient Care” was organized and coordinated by Drs. Extremera Navas and Piquer Belloch, gathered a large group of professionals who acted as teachers in the course, divided into two training groups for Doctors and Nursing Staff, bringing together 55 attendees.
Our teachers, together with Dr Extremera and Dr Piquer, were: Dr Maria Colomo Gonzalez (Intensivist), Dr Carola Gutierrez Melon (Intensivist), Dr Eduardas Ambrasas (Intensivist), Dr Maite Bovaira Forner (Anesthesiologist), Dr Marcos Barrio de Pedro (Intensivist), Dr Sara Garcia Gil-Perotin (Intensivist and Neurologist), Dr Halinder Singh Mangat (Neurologist), Mrs. Dita Chaloupkova (ICU Nurse), Mr. Mario Martin Jauregui (ICU Nurse), Mrs. Pilar Chisbert Genoves (Scrub Nurse), Mrs. Africa Sanchez Salas (Scrub Nurse) and Mrs. Tania Rey Domenech (ICU Nurse).
