We started 2020, specifically on January 10, with our first Multidisciplinary mission to the Mnazi Mmoja NED Surgical Institute in Zanzibar (Tanzania).
Coordinated by Dr Alain Flor-Goikoetxea Gamo (Neurosurgeon), it was composed by Dr Victor Javier Fernandez Cornejo (Neurosurgeon), Dr Hector Marin Ortega (General Surgeon), Dr Patricia Bosca Cortes (Anesthesiologist), Mr. Adrian Bosca Montesinos (Scrub Nurse) and Mr. Jaume Mercade Macaya (ICU Nurse).
During their stay they carried out clinical consultation (approx. 100 patients), surgeries assisted by local staff as first surgeons or as assistants in complex surgeries (24 interventions). Organization and material review, medication, equipment, instruments. Assistance patients admitted to the center. Local surgeons training.
We continue with our UCI Project one more year.
On this occasion, Dr Sarunas Judickas (Anesthesiologist and Intensivist) traveled to the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar (Tanzania) on January 15th, and remained on the island until January 31st.
Dr Maria Colomo Gonzalez (Intensivist) joined this mission and remained in Zanzibar until March 7th.
Their work focused on carrying out activities related to the clinical care of patients admitted to the intensive care unit. Training of local health personnel, as well as the continuation of the objectives set in the Project.
