A Hands-on & Live Surgery Course
A new course on cervical spine microsurgery will be held at the NED Mnazi Mmoja Institute in Zanzibar from 12 to 15 November, 2024. This course is designed for African neurosurgeons and spine surgeons seeking to enhance their microsurgical skills and proficiency in the utilisation of high-speed powered drills (navigated and non-navigated) for surgical procedures.
Pre-course: Midas Rex hands on workshop
The training programme includes a pre-course Midas Rex hands-on workshop (MRHOW). MRHOW are designed to help surgeons and nurses maximize their skills in using high-speed drills by providing a risk-free learning environment.
Participants will have the opportunity to work through a series of practical exercises, with a particular focus on bone dissection techniques using powered instruments. In this new remote setup, trainees get the opportunity to learn from the best faculties using state-of-art lab videoconferencing technology.
The course
The course will cover the fundamental anatomy of the cervical spine as well as diagnostic imaging sessions of degenerative diseases of the cervical spine. Furthermore, the primary surgical techniques will be discussed and practised. Additionally, hands-on sessions on anterior and posterior cervical approaches in the laboratory will be conducted using bone, plastic and RealSpine models.
To participate in the course it is mandatory to register by completing the form below. Those who do not submit the form will not be able to participate in the course and will not receive the corresponding diploma.
Pre-course, course and tuition fees: $50 (the form allows you to pay the fees now, or you can send your application and pay the course fees directly at the course venue on the first day of the course)
The course, accredited by the VIU-NED Chair of Global Neuroscience and Social Change, is equivalent to 5 credits (30 hours).
